Edwina joined Bruce, the girls and me at UAB’s homecoming game this year. While Edwina had attended a football game many, many years ago, she’d never seen a college team play or tailgated.
“I watch them play on TV,” she told me.
Following lunch in the College of Arts and Sciences tent from Full Moon Bar-b-q, one of this area’s most popular BBQ restaurants, and lots of free UAB trinkets, we all headed to the stadium. Since Edwina has trouble walking any distance and can’t climb stairs, Bruce and I went in search of an elevator.
We found one that took Edwina, Helena and me straight to the top. Our seats were too far up for Celia and Bruce who prefer to sit closer to the field, so we sat apart and communicated through text messages for the remainder of the game.
UAB beat University of North Texas by a landslide. Edwina cheered on the Blazers to victory and loved every minute of it!
